We are delighted to share with you the Ofsted report from our most recent inspection. Our glowing report reflects the many strengths of our school.

According to Ofsted, one parent expressed 'the view shared by many that Avening is 'a brilliant school with the children at its absolute core.' As staff and governors, putting children first is front and foremost in all that we do, so to have this recognised in the report is truly wonderful.

This was our first inspection under the new Ofsted Framework, where schools receive a report card of results. We are pleased to share that our very positive report is green across every category. In particular, Personal Development and Wellbeing received a 'strong' judgement, and all other areas have met the 'expected' standard and were close to being 'strong' - as you will appreciate when reading the positive statements in the report.

'Pupils are polite and considerate. They cherish the friendships they form.'

'Leaders prioritise pupils acquiring essential knowledge and skills in reading, writing and mathematics...Pupils demonstrate secure foundations of knowledge across the curriculum.'

'Leaders ensure that pastoral support for pupils is comprehensive. There is a particular emphasis on supporting pupils' positive mental health.'

'Leaders have high expectations of pupils' behaviour and encourage them to make positive choices.'

'Leaders have devised a sequential curriculum that helps pupils build their knowledge in different subjects overtime...Pupils speak confidently about their learning.'

'The teaching of phonics is consistent and effective, ensuring that pupils make a positive start to early reading and develop a love of reading from the early years.'

In the early years, 'staff precisely adapt the curriculum to reduce barriers for children and ensure that learning and provision are matched to what children need to know. Staff form nurturing relationships with children.'

'Leaders are deeply committed to ensuring that the school is inclusive.'

'Leaders and governors understand the context of this small school well...Their decisions are guided by a strong commitment to ensuring that all pupils receive the best possible support and opportunities.'
